Should you wish to include a gift to the Education Fund through your estate, several options are open to you.
One easy way to give is to name the Education Fund as a beneficiary of your donor-advised fund, life insurance policy, retirement plan or IRA. Just request, complete and submit a designation/change of beneficiary form from the fund, insurance company, plan sponsor or IRA custodian.
You also can easily make a bequest to the Education Fund: Simply ask your lawyer to include a provision in your will (either by preparing a new will or adding a codicil to your existing will) making a bequest in the amount you choose. You may bequeath a specific dollar amount or elect to leave to the Education Fund a percentage of your residual estate (i.e. what remains after debts, expenses, taxes and specific bequests have been paid).
Regardless of how you structure your gift, your generosity will have a lasting, tangible impact on the lives of those who receive Education Fund financial awards: smart, talented women age 35 and older whose education has been derailed by personal adversity, who have the perseverance to overcome challenges, who know that education is key but who need our help to make that happen.
We hope that you will let us know when you’ve made a bequest so that we can properly thank you and, with your permission, include you in our list of members of Elly’s Legacy Club. All members who arrange bequests before the end of 2018 will be listed as founding members.
Your lawyer will ask you for very basic information about the Education Fund, most likely including the following:
Legal Name: The Education Fund of the Women’s Forum, Inc.
Address: 59 East 54th Street, Suite 81, New York NY 10022
Tax ID #: 13-3098501
Nonprofit Status: The Education Fund is the 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charitable arm of the Women’s Forum, Inc.
The following sample language may be of help to your attorney in writing the bequest:
“I give and bequeath to the Education Fund of the Women’s Forum, Inc., 59 East 54th Street, Suite 81, New York NY 10022, [the sum of ______________dollars ($_____)] [or] [ ___________% of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate] to be used for its general charitable purposes.”
